The Thai community in NSW grew by 30% between 1991 and 1996. With this growth continuing, welfare needs within the community increased dramatically. The Thai Welfare Association was established in 1990 to provide an organisation run by, and for, Thai people in Australia .
Thais in Australia face problems and challenges just as do other ethnic groups. Adapting to a new society and culture, maintaining identity, contributing to Australia society, and gaining access to community service are all areas in which Thais individually and as a community may benefit from assistance.
The Thai Welfare Association in supported by The State and Federal Governments of Australia and by Government of Thailand. It is a community organization managed by committee elected annually by its members.
It is to this end that the Thai welfare Association was established, to provide as organisation run by and for the Thai community to participate in a multicultural society |
